IRVING, Texas – ExxonMobil and its partners have achieved an 18th oil discovery on the Stabroek block offshore Guyana, adding to the existing recoverable resource of more than 8 Bboe.

The drillship Noble Don Taylor drilled the Redtail-1 well in 6,164 ft (1,878 m) of water and about 1.5 mi (2.5 km) northwest of the Yellowtail discovery

It encountered 232 ft (70 m) of good-quality oil-bearing sandstone.

John Hess, CEO of partner Hess, pointed out that Redtail was the ninth find in the southeast area of the block, likely underpinning a future development.

In addition, Yellowtail-2, the 17th discovery on the block, delivered 69 ft (21 m) of net pay in newly identified oil-bearing reservoirs among the original Yellowtail-1 discovery intervals.
