LONDONSerica Energy has contracted Awilco Drilling’s semisubmersible WilPhoenix for a one-well workover on the Rhum gas/condensate field in the UK central North Sea.

The 70-day program, due to start in mid-September, will involve recovering debris left in the R3 well by previous operator BP and removing an obstruction thought to be in place across parts of the downhole completion.

Thereafter, the well will be re-completed and restored to production. R3 is already connected to the subsea production infrastructure that sends Rhum’s production to the Bruce field complex via a 45-km (28-mi) pipeline.

With three wells online, production from Rhum should rise, also providing more flexibility in the management of the field, Serica said.

The company added that it had assessed the potential impact on COVID-19 related issues on availability of equipment and/or personnel, but saw no potential hurdles.

At the Bruce field center, Rhum’s production is separated into gas and condensate and exported to St Fergus and Grangemouth in eastern Scotland along with output from the Bruce and Keith fields.

Its wells are capable of producing at combined rates of close to 30,000 boe/d.
