DALLASKosmos Energy has completed drilling the Oldfield exploration well in the US Gulf of Mexico.

Oldfield (Kosmos 40%, Hess 60%) was designed to test a sub-salt Miocene prospect in the Mississippi Canyon area. The well did not encounter commercial quantities of hydrocarbons and will now be P&A’d.

The Oldfield well is in about 1,500 m (4,921 ft) of water and was drilled to a total depth of approximately 6,500 m (21,325 ft).

After P&A’ing the well, the semisubmersible drilling rig Valaris 8503 will move to the Kodiak field to begin operations on a new infill producer well.

The company said it plans to drill three more infrastructure-led exploration wells in the Gulf of Mexico in 2020.
