Apache Corp. has appointed Alex C. de Alvarez as VP of security.

HOUSTON -- Apache Corp. has appointed Alex C. de Alvarez as VP of security.

Alvarez has an extensive background in corporate and national security, specializing in energy infrastructure security. Shortly after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, he accepted a position as an infrastructure security expert with the US Department of Energy. He was instrumental in setting up the Department of Homeland Security while serving in the White House Homeland Security Transition Planning Office during President George W. Bush's first administration. His highest-ranking appointment was as the director of energy assurance at the US Department of Energy.

Prior to joining the government, he was the director of security and safety at Enron Broadband Services. His previous experience includes several years as a clandestine operations officer at the CIA and as a captain in the US Marine Corps. Most recently, he has been the principal of Energy Assurance LLC, a privately held strategic consulting company.
