ABERDEEN, UK – LUX Assure and the University of Strathclyde in western Scotland have a grant from the Oil & Gas Innovation Centre to further develop LUX’s CoMic technology.

The aim is to develop the industry’s first corrosion inhibitor micelle detection tool with automated data analysis capability.

The partnership will develop CoMic’s existing manual analysis methodology, create special algorithms and exploit emerging mathematical techniques to automatically analyze data acquired during on-site chemical tests.

LUX Assure CEO Emma Perfect said the program would provide information to clients on-site and in real-time, informing them of optimal corrosion inhibitor dosage and allowing prompt decisions to be taken on chemical injection.

“Off-site data processing and evaluation is currently required; this leads to delays in obtaining results and can be a barrier to sales where data cannot leave the oilfield being monitored,” she said.

CoMic informs management of corrosion inhibitors and is said to provide data on the optimal level of corrosion inhibitor. The technology was redeveloped last year to create what is claimed to be the world’s first operator-deployable corrosion inhibitor detection tool.
