ABUDHABI, UAE -- SBM Offshore has delivered Lone Star, the first of three semisubmersible drillings under construction for Brazilian contractor Queiroz Galvão Perfuraçoes.

The second and third rigs are being built at the same yard in Abu Dhabi. The second rig, currently on sea trials, should be delivered later this year, followed by the third in 2011.

Nearby, SBM says construction of the Deep Panuke platform for EnCana, due to operate off Nova Scotia, is in the assembly stage in the dry dock, with completion and load-out scheduled around year-end.

SBM is in discussions concerning change orders related to modifications requested by the client, which have impacted the project schedule and cost.

The MOPUstor jackup platform for Talisman’s Yme field, built by Topaz Marine, has arrived in Norway. Planned inshore works are nearing completion, and the platform will be ready soon for offshore installation. However, the timing of installation and subsequent start-up of the unit and lease depends on an adequate weather window, for safety reasons.

At this time of the year, uncertainty over weather conditions in the North Sea means there is a risk of delay to first oil, which could increase financing and other construction costs.
