SCHIEDAM, the Netherlands — Cadeler has contracted Huisman to design and manufacture a 13-m diameter gripper for installation of monopiles for offshore wind turbines.
The gripper, Huisman’s seventh order to date, will be engineered to handle monopiles ranging in length from 80 m to 120 m and weighing up to 3,000 metric tons.
It will be capable of being fully stored on deck to support future maintenance. The contract also includes an option for integration of a noise mitigation system to minimize the operational impact on sea life.
Huisman will construct the system at its complex in China.
Cadeler will deploy the gripper on the Hornsea Three offshore wind foundation project in the UK southern North Sea. Previously Huisman delivered two motion-compensated monopile grippers for DEME's Orionand Boskalis' Bokalift 2 vessels, and it is presently building another for Heerema's Thialf.
