WOLVERTEM, Belgium — Sarens is helping Qatar Fabrication Co. (QFAB), a joint venture (JV) between McDermott and Qatar’s Nakilat, construct various platform jackets for Qatar Gas.
QFAB, formed in 2019, operates a fabrication yard in Al Jalahma. It is said to have based its engineering studies and lifting calculations on Sarens cranes.
Sarens Nass Middle East (SNME) is assisting the JV with construction, maintenance, repair and refurbishment of offshore and onshore structures as well as all types of vessels.
Lifting 300-400-t towers to a height of 50 m to 60 m is said to have been a major issue for the project engineers. Sarens deployed a combination of crawler cranes such as the LR1750, with a maximum load capacity of 750 t, and smaller cranes, such as the CC2800, LR1300 and LR1130, for these tasks.
In addition, the Sarens Projects division supports SNME by supplying a CC6800 crane with a maximum capacity of 1,350 t, a boom length of 511.8 ft and a maximum jib length of 354.3 ft.
