VERNIER, Switzerland — Transocean, in partnership with NOV, now offers crane motion technology that is designed to improve safety and efficiency.
“Moving our people away from the load during lifts takes us further down the road of risk reduction,” said Transocean Director of OI and HSE Dan Haslam. “With the added benefit of more efficient deck operations, we are excited about this technology.”
Transocean crane operators make thousands of lifts onboard its rigs each year. The new crane technology will reduce load sway and enable crane operators to rotate loads 360 degrees.
Before, the deck crew would rotate the load using push poles and tag lines, but with the anti-sway rotator technology, the crane operator rotates the load and the deck crew remains safely out of reach.
The technology's anti-sway capability automatically reduces the swinging motion of the load, which especially makes a big difference during harsh weather.
The anti-sway rotator tech is available for install on all Transocean rigs with knuckle boom cranes. It works for all loads, including containers, baskets and tubulars.
