Glamox illuminating remotely-controlled North Sea platforms
Aker Solutions and Aibel have awarded Glamox platform lighting contracts for two field development projects in the Norwegian North Sea.
Glamox will supply around 5,000 energy-efficient marine LED lights for the new installations under construction for the AkerBP-operated Yggdrasil and Valhall PWP-Fenris projects.
The package includes close to 4,000 connected interior/exterior lights for three remotely operated production platforms in the Yggdrasil area.
Yggdrasil, between the Alvheim and Oseberg complexes, covers the Hugin, Fulla, and Munin licenses.
The central Hugin A processing platform and living quarters will be periodically unmanned after the first few years of production. Most of the interior and exterior luminaires, including floodlights, will be connected, allowing them to be switched on and off and dimmed locally or remotely using a light management system.
Connected Glamox luminaires and floodlights will also be installed at the Hugin normally unmanned wellhead platform. Both fall under the remit of the Aker Solutions order.
Under a separate contract with Aibel, Glamox will provide the same smart lighting for the Munin unmanned production platform in the northern Yggdrasil area.
Nicholas Dvorani, package responsible buyer at the Fixed Facilities Alliance (of which Aker Solutions is a member) said: “Indoor lights are necessary even on the unmanned platforms as they are visited by inspection and maintenance teams.
“Also, there are cameras on the platform, so if we detect a problem, we can activate the lights, including floodlights, from the Yggdrasil shore-based control center to take a better look.
“The marine certified luminaires and floodlights from Glamox are explosion proof and can cope with the harshest conditions the North Sea can throw at them.”
