NEW ORLEANS – John Hofmeister, former president of Shell Oil Company, will address industry leaders at Deep Offshore Technology (DOT) International 2011. Hofmeister will deliver his presentation, titled “Managing the Complexities of Risk while Delivering Affordable Energy Security”, at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at the Hilton Riverside in New Orleans, La.
Hofmeister was named president of Houston-based Shell Oil Company in March 2005, heading the U.S. Country Leadership Team, which included the leaders of all Shell businesses operating in the United States. Upon retirement from Shell Oil Company in 2008, Hofmeister founded and heads the not-for-profit, nation-wide membership association, Citizens for Affordable Energy. This Washington, D.C.-registered, public policy education firm promotes sound U.S. energy solutions for the nation, including a range of affordable energy supplies, efficiency improvements, essential infrastructure, sustainable environmental policies and public education on energy issues.
“Nations cannot provide the world the energy it needs without both managing risk and delivering affordable energy. This balance is possible when companies and stakeholders seriously embrace each other with publicly acceptable solutions that support common interests and mutual objectives,” said Hofmeister. “In this regard there are clear and present responsibilities that must both be understood and accepted by companies, governments, NGO’s and the public. Getting there is not just important. It is essential. There are lessons yet to be learned on all sides. Now is the best time to make progress on all fronts.”
