TotalEnergies joins Morocco-UK subsea power development

PARIS, France — TotalEnergies is investing £20 million ($25.35 million) to acquire a stake in UK-based Xlinks First, alongside existing investors Octopus Energy and Abu Dhabi National Energy Co. (TAQA).

Xlinks plans to develop a solar/wind energy project in Morocco that would transmit electricity to the UK through ultra-long distance HDVC subsea cables, coupled with battery energy storage.

Upon completion, the developers aim to provide sufficient electricity to power more than 7 million homes in the UK.
