HONG KONG – CNOOC Well Control Centre (CWCC) is investing £1.1 million ($1.52 million) in simulator technology to support its well training operations.

CWCC has developed new classrooms and installed MultiSIMs, DrillSIM:5s and DrillSIM:Educators at its training center in Tianjin, all supplied by 3t-China and simulator developer Drilling Systems, both owned by 3t Energy Group.

Currently the center provides training to over 2,400 students each year. CWCC aims to train and assess personnel in all elements of well control and drilling to internationally-approved IADC and IWCF standards.

Since winning their contract last year, 3t-China and Drilling Systems have worked with CWCC to design and develop the simulator technology, which was installed this week.

The MultiSIM system provides training for various intervention operations including coiled tubing, wireline and new software for snubbing operations. DrillSIM:5 and DrillSIM:Educator are teaching tools for multiple students.

Drilling Systems’ simulator technology employs virtual-reality-based learning with graphics and scenarios designed to accurately mirror field operations.
