TORONTOExxonMobil’s latest oil discovery offshore Guyana appears to have de-risked the prospectivity of the nearby Tullow-operated Orinduik block, according to partner Eco Atlantic.

Hammerhead-1, 7 km (4.3 mi) from the license boundary, discovered oil in turbidite channel systems.

Tullow and Eco Atlantic have conducted a 2D geophysics study throughout the area and completed a 2,550-sq km (984-sq mi)3D survey last year.

The latter, which incorporates the Hammerhead-1 well location, shows that these channel systems extend up dip onto the Orinduik license.

Now the partners expect to soon be able to choose the location for the first well on their license, due to start drilling in mid-2019.

Colin Kinley, COO of Eco Atlantic, said: “We all are confident in our understanding of these systems and this discovery immediately off board of our eastern border confirms our analysis.”
