HAMBURG, Germany – Hansa Heavy Lift has transported five pipe racks and three modules for the new P-67 FPSO that will operate in a presalt region offshore Brazil.
These weigh a total of 1,871.51 metric tons (2,063 tons) and occupy 24,075 sq m (259,141 sq ft), with the heaviest item weighing 730 metric tons (804 tons).
The cargo was loaded onto theHHL Valparaiso at the ports of Itajaí and Rio de Janeiro before being transported to Qingdao, in Shandong Province, China, where it will undergo final outfitting before being transported back to Brazil.
According to Joerg Roehl, chief commercial officer, Hansa Heavy Lift, the transport solution involved custom-built grillage for load spreading on deck to accommodate the heavy modules, modification of lifting lugs, and installation of platforms for safe access.
“We also had limited cargo information which meant a cargo inspection was necessary to assess the clash of rigging arrangements with the equipment and protrusions,” said Ian Broad, director cargo management.
Additional challenges were draft and navigational restrictions at the river passage in Itajaí, tight stowage, and a long waiting time at all ports, which complicated planning.
