ROTTERDAM, the NetherlandsMammoet has installed a 1,200-metric-ton A-framed gantry extension on Van Oord’s Svanen heavy-lift installation vessel.

The operation increased the vessel’s height to 125 m. It was part of an upgrades program that includes modernization of the lifting hooks to raise Svanen’s lifting capacity from 3,000 mt to 4,500 mt; improvement of the gripper to allow it to handle increased loads; and modifications to the vessel’s structure to accommodate the latest hammer size.

Van Oord commissioned the upgades to prepare the vessel for installing the next generation of monopile foundations for offshore wind projects.
