LIVORNO, Italy  OLT Offshore LNG Toscana has received authorization from the Italian authorities to increase its annual regasification capacity from the current 3.75 Bcm/year to about 5 Bcm.

And the FSRU Toscana Terminal will also be permitted to receive up to 122 small LNG carriers each year loading LNG directly at the terminal to refuel LNG ships or deliver the LNG to coastal depots in Mediterranean ports.

The increase in regasification capacity is part of Italy’s broader national strategy related to Europe’s energy emergency situation in 2022. It does not involve plant modifications, but a higher utilization of the existing facilities with increased volumes of LNG to be discharged and regasified.

The additional capacity will be available starting from the next gas year and will be allocated according to the terms of OLT's Regasification Code.
