ABERDEEN, UK — Ørsted has contracted Balmoral Comtec to provide 400 cable protection systems for the Hornsea 3 wind farm development, 120 km from the Norfolk coast in the UK southern North Sea.
All work, including design engineering, will take place at Balmoral Comtec’s Aberdeen center.
According to the company, managing over-bending, abrasion and fatigue of underwater cables is a continued issue for offshore wind developers. Its system employs materials designed to improve operational performance and improve fatigue life. The system mechanically locks together, removing a reliance on PU bonding, which can be unpredictable and difficult to validate over field design life.
