ZAANDAM, the Netherlands  KenzFigee has released its GenHook, an up-tower crane for offshore application with a lifting capacity of up to 30 metric tons and capable of performing generator and gearbox exchanges and repairs on wind turbines.

The development, based on the company’s proven up-tower crane technology, is said to allow deployment of smaller (and lower-cost) jackup barges and offshore vessels for these tasks.

The modular, lightweight cranes are designed to be placed temporarily on top of a wind turbine nacelle for fast-track component change-outs, and a larger operational window than traditional cranes, the company claimed. They are also powered by the wind turbine.

GenHooks can be assembled and installed by the WTG nacelle service crane itself.
