ROTTERDAM, the Netherlands – Blauwwind has reached first power at the Borssele III & IV wind farm in the Dutch North Sea.
Located 22 km (14 mi) off the coast of the province of Zeeland, the first turbine now generates electricity and supplies energy to the Dutch grid. Thirty six of the 77 turbines have been installed.
The 731.5-MW offshore wind farm is expected to be completed in October 2020. According to Blauwind, the total expected yield is 3,000 gigawatt hours (GWh) per year, enough to power more than 825,000 Dutch households.
The Blauwwind consortium partners are Partners Group, Shell, DGE, Eneco Group, and Van Oord. The consortium has signed power purchase agreements with Shell and Eneco Group, which stipulate that they will both purchase 50% of the electricity generated from the wind farm.
MHI Vestas produced 77 V164-9.5 MW turbines. Van Oord designed, procured, constructed, and installed the foundations and inter array cable. TenneT developed and built the Borssele Beta offshore substation.
