MACAÉ, Brazil — Corcovado Geosub has contracted Kongsberg Discovery to supply cNODE sensor logging transponders.

These will support environmental monitoring for seafloor horizontal and vertical displacement for CCS and oil and gas production programs in Brazil.

Monitoring for changes to elevation of the seabed during carbon capture is necessary to mitigate against the risk of the stored gas escaping due to over-pressurization.

Donizeti Carneiro, Corcovado commercial director, said the company plans to deploy the cNODE sensors for up to 10 years to provide data that will be retrieved every three to six months via acoustic telemetry.

“The sensors…include high-accuracy digiquartz crystals and internal barometers for continuous calibration,” he said.

The company, a provider of survey, ROV and AUV services, has previously used Kongsberg Discovery’s Hugin AUV for high-resolution mapping of seafloor areas.
