SHANGHAI, China — DNV has awarded two approval in principle (AiP) certificates to Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co. (DSIC) covering the designs for a 50,000-cbm floating liquefied CO2 (LCO2) storage and injection unit (FSIU) and a 20,000-cbm LCO2 carrier.

The AiPs confirm the feasibility of the conceptual designs as reviewed by DNV.

DSIC is seeking to become a leading constructor of maritime LCO2 facilities.

Although only about 40 MM metric tons/year of CO2 are currently captured globally, DNV said, it expects demand in the future for a large number of LCO2 transport vessels, storage and injection units.
