HOUSTON — Petrobras has received the Distinguished Achievement Award at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) for its innovations at the Marlim Field and others in the Campos Basin offshore Brazil.

The company’s president Jean Paul Prates said, “Through intensive use of innovation and technology, we managed to increase production in the Campos Basin by 230,000 bbl/d, which was already considered by many as an area of little relevance in our portfolio.”

For the Marlim revitalization program, the company started operations last year from the newbuild FPSOs Anna Nery and Anita Garibaldi, replacing nine old production platforms that had been operating in the field.

The new systems should increase production by at least 115,000 bbl/d over the next few years while at the same time cutting emissions by 55%.

According to Petrobras, the Campos Basin Revitalization Program is the world’s largest for the recovery of mature assets in deep water, achieving a milestone last December of an additional 230,000 bbl/d of oil.

The company plans to add three more new FPSOs in the basin, over the Jubarte, Barracuda & Caratinga, and Albacora fields.

OTC previously recognized Petrobras for its technological achievements at Marlim in 1992, which at the time helped the global oil and gas industry to implement deepwater production systems.
