ABERDEEN, UK – The semisubmersible Island Innovator has spudded an appraisal well for Spirit Energy on the Fogelberg oil and gas discovery in the Norwegian Sea.

According to partner Faroe Petroleum, the well on license PL433 could be followed by a side track.

The discovery well 6506/9-2 S encountered gas and condensate in the Middle Jurassic Garn and Ile formations, with no fluid contacts observed.

Current estimate of recoverable resources from Fogelberg are 19-116 MMboe – this is because the discovery well was located high on the structure, Faroe explained.

Main objectives of the current drilling program are to narrow this range and to provide additional information for development planning.

Fogelberg is 18 km (11 mi) northwest of Statoil’s Åsgard gas/condensate complex.

Faroe’s forward plans for the Norwegian sector this year include wells on the Rugne and Cassidy prospects.
