ABERDEEN, UK – Siccar Point Energy (SPE) has outlined the goals of this summer’s planned exploration well on the Lyon prospect in the far north of the UK offshore sector.
In an environmental statement, the company said the semisubmersibleWest Hercules will drill well 208/2-A in block 208/2 in a water depth of roughly 1,444 m (4,737 ft) in the Faroe-Shetland Channel.
The goals are to determine the presence, depths, and thickness of any sands in the Balder-Flett formation and to establish hydrocarbon saturations within any Balder-Flett formation sands encountered.
SPE anticipates gas, with the potential for a small amount of condensate to be present.
Operations will likely start at the end of May. The proposed program comprises a vertical exploration well, to be drilled in four sections of successively smaller diameters to a TD of 2,666 m (8,746 ft) subsurface.
On reaching TD, and if initial results are positive, measurements may include a vertical seismic profile survey and a conventional well test.
Once drilling and testing have finished, the well will be permanently P&A’d.
