CAPE TOWN, South Africa – Sierra Leone plans to stage its fourth offshore petroleum licensing round between mid-January and end-May next year.
Raymond Kargbo, Director General of the country’s Petroleum Directorate, made the announcement at the Africa Oil Week Conference in Cape Town.
UK-based consultants Getech Group will support the round via its subsidiary ERCL, which has been working with the Petroleum Directorate since 2016 to provide the data for investors to review the country’s offshore prospectivity.
Data rooms in Freetown and London will showcase 15,000 line km (9,320 mi) of 2D seismic; around 10,000 sq km (3,861 sq mi) of 3D seismic (including PSDM volumes reprocessed by previous operators); and data on all wells from the 2009-2013 drilling campaigns, which led to four discoveries.
The 3D seismic and wells data are available to license from the Petroleum Directorate, and will be delivered by ERCL.
In addition, Getech Group is offering various products based on the government’s released 3D seismic and well database. These include the Sierra Leone Digital (GIS) Atlas and Sierra Leone Petroleum Geology Report.
In addition, the Getech Group’s large potential fields database and regional reports are also available to assist in evaluating the Sierra Leone margin.
CEO Jonathan Copus said the country is “located on a margin that is bookended by major discoveries in Senegal/Mauritania and Ghana… Sierra Leone’s offshore waters contain proven petroleum systems that we believe to be conjugate to major discoveries in South America.”
