HOUSTON– As record rainfall from Tropical Storm Harvey continues to cause historic flooding across southeast Texas, oil and gas companies are contributing to the relief efforts.

Chevron Corp. has announced that it is making a $1 million contribution to the American Red Cross.

Jeff Shellebarger, president, Chevron North America Exploration and Production Co., said: “Our thoughts are with all the people who have suffered tremendous losses and disruption from this catastrophic hurricane and related flooding.

“As a business with deep ties to Texas and Houston, this donation will assist with the initial critical relief process. We will continue to work with responding organizations to support ongoing recovery efforts, which we hope can begin soon.”

The donation will support relief efforts throughout the affected regions, including both Corpus Christi and the greater Houston metropolitan area. In addition, the company said that it will match donations made to the relief efforts by its employees and retirees.

Exxon Mobil Corp. says that it is allocating $500,000 for contributions to regional Red Cross organizations along the US Gulf Coast to assist with relief efforts in communities expected to be impacted by the storm.

ExxonMobil Chairman and CEO Darren W. Woods said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the residents of Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast communities currently in the path of Hurricane Harvey.

“We are monitoring the storm and working with the Red Cross to determine where best we can direct these resources to assist with preparation and relief efforts in the Gulf region. We hope our contributions will help provide comfort to our friends and neighbors in areas impacted by the storm.”

ExxonMobil has also made provisions to ensure that emergency responders and other essential service providers requesting fuel are given priority.

The Caterpillar Foundation has announced a $300,000 donation to the American Red Cross to aid in immediate relief efforts.

Caterpillar CEO Jim Umpleby said: “In addition to the Red Cross donation, Cat dealers across the country, including three in Texas, are once again activating in the face of disaster. We are in close contact with them as they first provide for the safety of their employees, and continue to make available generators of all sizes, which are in high demand.

“Caterpillar has also begun sending power generation equipment from other parts of the country to the storm-ravaged areas and started staging equipment for the clean-up efforts that will soon come.”

Anadarko says that it has contributed $1 million to the United Way disaster relief fund.
