STAVANGER, Norway – Heerema Marine Contractors’ crane vessel Thialf has installed the jacket for the Johan Sverdrup riser platform in the Norwegian North Sea.
According to operatorStatoil, the 140-m (459-ft) tall, 26,000-metric ton (28,660-ton) jacket is currently the largest on the Norwegian continental shelf.
It is fixed to the seabed by 24 piles weighing in total more than 9,000 metric tons (9,921 tons).
Installation of the topsides should follow next year, with first production from the field due to start at the end of 2019.
In theBarents Sea, the semisubmersible Songa Enablerwill drill Statoil’s first well in production license 859, awarded under Norway’s 23rd licensing round last year, after the rig has completed its current exploratory well for the same operator in PL 855.
The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has sanctioned the program.
The drilling location is roughly 320 km (199 mi) northeast of the 7225/3-1 (Norvarg) well, and 365 km (227 mi) northeast of the Wisting discovery well 7324/8-1, and 415 km (258 mi) from the northern Norwegian coast.
