CNPC steps up search for gas hydrates offshore China

CNPC and the Ministry of Land and Resources, Guangdong Province have agreed to co-operate on a pilot site for exploration and exploitation of gas hydrates in the Shenhu area of the South China Sea.

BEIJING, China – CNPC and the Ministry of Land and Resources, Guangdong Province have agreed to co-operate on a pilot site for exploration and exploitation of gas hydrates in the Shenhu area of the South China Sea.
Their goals are to speed up the industrial development of gas hydrates in China, and optimize the country’s energy mix.
CNPC will deploy technologies and experience applied to onshore natural gas development and deep-sea hydrate test production in building the pilot site.
