LONDON – The Ensco 8503 has completed drilling operations in the final hole section of the Talos Energy-operated Zama-1 exploration well offshore Mexico, reaching a TD of 4,108 m (13,478 ft).
According to partnerPremier Oil, logging results confirmed that the previous hole section had reached the base of the reservoir section, with an oil-down-to in the well of 3,380 m (11,089 ft) and no subsequent penetration of an oil-water-contact.
The well drilled deeper into the Zama Deep target but encountered no additional hydrocarbons, confirming expectations for this formation.
Based on results to date, Premier estimates oil-in-place volumes at more than 1 Bbbl. The gross oil bearing interval inZama-1 is more than 335 m (1,100 ft) – the well has now been suspended as a potential producer.
The partners will now assess the next steps for appraising and developing the field.
Offshore Indonesia, the Premier-operated Anoa development well (WL-5X) has been completed and will be brought on production in early August.
Its equipment-constrained flow rate of 28 MMcf/d was higher than the 18 MMcf/d achieved during the original well test, and reserves for this well alone appear to be around 75-100 bcf.
Premier hopes the long-term production test from this well will help prove up more reserves from the deeper zones within the Anoa field.
At the company’sCatcher project in the UK central North Sea, a Burgman field injection well (B12) is currently being completed, the last of the 12 wells scheduled for completion pre-first oil.
Ten of the twelve wells have been tied in, with the final two tie-ins also scheduled ahead of first oil.
Four wells have been drilled on each of the Catcher, Varadero, and Burgman fields ahead of schedule. The rig should transfer to Catcher at the end of August for the next batch of four production wells.
