OSLO, Norway – The gravity-based platform for ExxonMobil’s Hebron field development is in place at its location on the Grand Banks offshore Newfoundland.
Kvaerner, which built the base at St. John’s, also had a lead role in the tow out and subsequent installation. The platform was set down on position well within tolerances.
In Norway, work to upgrade theNyhamna plant to receive gas from further fields in the Norwegian Sea aside from Ormen Lange is progressing, with Kvaerner providing commissioning support to operator Norske Shell.
As for theJohan Sverdrup project in the North Sea, Kvaerner continues construction of the ULQ platform topsides, with all modules received from Poland.
At Verdal, assembly and load out has finished of the riser platform jacket and sail away should follow later this month. Pre-fabrication continues of the Sverdrup drilling and production platform jackets, with the first two main frames completed of the drilling jacket.
Dubai Kvaerner has delivered prefabricated pile clusters for the same structure.
Kvaerner adds that new tendering activity is high and the company plans to bid for prospects both in Norway and elsewhere. Some of the key contract awards should follow during the second half of 2017 and in 2018.
Looking further ahead, Kvaerner sees oil companies making preparations for other new projects, notably in theBarents Sea.
