LONDON – Drilling is under way on the Zama prospect in block 7 in Mexico’s shallow-water Sureste basin.

Zama-1, operated by Talos Energy, is the first exploration well on acreage awarded under the country’sfirst international licensing round in 2015.

According to partnerPremier Oil, this is a low-risk prospect with supportive direct hydrocarbon indicators in the Tertiary clastic reservoirs. Resources could be in the range of 100-500 MMbbl.

Drilling of Zama and the secondary target, Zama Deep, should take 90 days to complete, at a net cost to Premier of $16 million.

Sierra Oil and Gas is the other partner.
