NEW DELHI, India – ONGC discovered 10 new fields or accumulations in proven areas offshore India last year.
Among the major finds were GKS101NCA-1 in the Saurashtra Offshore, which has been upgraded to a Category-I (Producing) basin warranting fasttrack monetization.
The SRI-1 discovery in NELP block KG-OSN-2009/2 in the KG basin offshore eastern India established huge potential for a syn-rift/deeper play in shallow water, the company added.
ONGC also scaled up its R&D programs for new hydrocarbon frontiers, including the establishment last September of the Gas Hydrate Research and Technology Centre in Mumbai.
It also introduced technologies such as Broadband 3D seismic for surveys over the Ratna and R-series field and other areas in the Western Offshore to improve subsurface imaging, and conducted a 3D ocean bottom cable survey in the shallow water transition zone of KG basin.
