ABERDEEN, UK – Odfjell’s semisubmersible Deepsea Bergen has spudded the Faroe Petroleum-operated Brasse appraisal well 31/7-2S in the Norwegian North Sea.
The main wellbore of last July’sdiscovery well encountered an 18-m (59-ft) gross gas column and a 21-m (69-ft) gross oil column in a good-quality Jurassic reservoir.
A subsequentside track intersected a 6-m (19.7-ft) gas column and 25-m (82-ft) oil column.
Faroe’s main aims for the appraisal well include reducing uncertainty in the recoverable reserves estimate – currently 28-54 MMbbl of oil and 89-158 bcf of gas – and obtaining additional information for the development.
The well will target a seismic anomaly roughly 2 km (1.2 mi) southeast of the main discovery well.
Brasse is 13 km (8 mi) south of the Wintershall-operated Brage field platform, in which Faroe has a 14.3% interest, and 13 km southeast of Statoil’s Oseberg field center.
Depending on the result, Faroe and partnerPoint Resources could opt to drill a second appraisal well later this year. Recently, Faroe was also awarded a license for the Brasse Extension area where further drilling could follow in 2018.
