THE WOODLANDS, TexasAnadarko has discovered gas with its latest well in the Colombian sector of the Caribbean Sea.

The Gorgon exploration well, around 20 mi (32 km) northeast of the company’s play-openingKronos discovery, intersected 260-360 ft (79-110 m) of gas pay, with a whole-core acquired across the primary reservoir interval.

Earlier, operations finished on the nearbyPurple Angel-1 exploration well, which encountered 70-110 ft (21-33 m) of gas pay and confirmed a gas column greater than 1,700 ft (518 m).

Here too a whole-core was acquired across the hydrocarbon-bearing interval to better characterize the reservoir quality and refine the net pay range.

Once theBolette Dolphin drillship has finished operations it will transfer across the Atlantic to spud Anadarko’s Paon-6A well in block CI-103 offshore Côte d’Ivoire.

This is designed to test the updip extent of the oil accumulation in the discovery’s “south channel.” If successful, a drillstem and interference testing program will follow in late 2017.

After Paon-6A, two exploratory wells will follow on blocks to the southeast. Gendarme-1X well will test the exploration potential on block CI-528 (Rossignol-1X encountered oil pay on water in the acreage last year).

Colibri-1X well in CI-527 will test exploration objectives similar in age to Paon, and an oil objective encountered in the Pelican-1X well.

Offshore Ghana, tie-in, dewatering and commissioning of the TEN gas export line was completed in March, Anadarko adds, enabling gas export to go ahead once a gas sales agreement is executed.
