Offshore staff
TRONDHEIM, Norway – Total E&P Norge has selected Aptomar’s tactical collaboration and management system (TCMS) to digitalize and manage environmental monitoring and oil spill detection at the Martin Linge field in the North Sea.
The TCMS will combine subsea, topsides, and aerial oil spill detection sensors into one common operating picture (COP).
Aptomar will customize, commission, and maintain the COP for the environmental monitoring. The system will provide an overview of all available sensor information for prevention, detection, and monitoring of hydrocarbon leaks to the sea, all in the same surveillance interface.
Digitalization of the process should also lead to lower cost oil spill detection achieved at a lower cost than conventional monitoring methods, Aptomar claims.
Total has specified the following:
1.) All oil spill detection elements, i.e. remote sensors, cameras and process sensors, must be accessible to operators and other relevant personnel onshore and offshore
2.) The system must provide a fast overview of the current status of the oil spill detection sensors in one interface.
The oil spill detection COP should allow Total to detect significant acute discharges within the required timeframe, and ensure that satisfactory expertise and methods are available for determining the position, extent, quantity, and combating capability of unintended discharges.
Aptomar claims this is the sole commercially available system to combine real-time data from different stages of the offshore production process with remote and distributed sensors such as cameras, radars, wind and current; installed subsea, topsides, or aerial.
It is said to predict and detect potential oil spills before any oil reaches the sea, and detect unintended oil spills released subsea or present on the sea surface.
