HOUSTON – McDermott International’s yards in Jebel Ali and Dammam are operating at high capacity levels as the company benefits from strong offshore activity in the Middle East.
The contractor’s marine assets in the region are also engaged in programs offQatar, Saudi Arabia, and the Khafji Neutral Zone.
Qatar marine activity has focused on the RasGas Flow Assurance and Looping project, with the umbilical installation scope completed ahead of schedule.
Additionally, the construction vesselDLV 2000 has relocated to the Middle East, where it will likely work on existing contracts for most of 2017.
During 1Q McDermott finished installation of the KJO Hout structures and the company expects to complete work on the associated pipelines and platform hookup and commissioning by mid-year.
Engineering and procurement on the Saudi Aramco Lump Sum LTA II project are in the final stages, with preparations under way to start fabrication.
Saudi Aramco’s Safaniya Phase 5 and four jackets and four observation platforms projects are in the engineering and procurement phases, both slightly ahead of schedule.
At McDermott’s fabrication yard in Batam, Indonesia, construction is progressing of 14 jackets for Aramco, with the three completed jackets transported on a fast transport vessel to Ras Tanura,Saudi Arabia.
Elsewhere in Asia, McDermott’sLV 108 has performed subsea construction and pre-commissioning works to prepare for the arrival of the floating facilities for INPEX’s Ichthys development offshore northwest Australia.
The company has also been working with INPEX and the supplier to rectify a subsea connector component issue identified in January.
During February McDermott started engineering, procurement, and fabrication of the pre-lay structures, in-line tees and pipeline end terminals forWoodside’s Greater Western Flank Phase 2 pipeline project.
Offshore eastern India, theDB30 has completed installation of the shallow water section of the pipelines and umbilical for ONGC’s Vashishta project.
Fabrication of pipe stalks for the deepwater pipelay was completed at the company’s mobile spoolbase, rigged up at Larsen & Toubro’s fabrication yard in Kattupalli, along with the first and second loadouts onboard theNO 105.
The latter has installed the first two deepwater pipeline sections and continues work on the remaining two.
Later this month theDB 30 will mobilize to lay offshore pipelines for Brunei Shell Petroleum.
