TEHRAN, Iran– Phases 17-21 of the South Pars gas field in the Persian Gulf have entered production.
According to news service Shana, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani arrived in Assalouyeh on Sunday for the opening ceremony and to order the phases into production via videoconference.
Phases 17 and 18 should deliver 50 MMcm/d (1.77 tcf/d) of gas, 80,000 b/d of gas condensate, and 400 tons/d of sulfur. Located 104 km (64.6 mi) offshore, the two phases include four platforms with 44 wells. Two 34-in. pipelines deliver the gas recovered from the phases to onshore refining facilities.
Phase 19 is developed for the production of 56 MMcm/d of sour gas to be transformed into 50 MMcm/d of sweet gas, 550 tons/d of ethane, 2,000 tons/d of propane, 1,200 tons/d of butane, 80,000 b/d of gas condensate and 400 tons/d of sulfur.
Phases 20 and 21 should deliver 56.6 MMcm/d of rich natural gas, 75,000 b/d of natural gas condensate, 400 tons of sulfur, and annually 1.05 million tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) including propane and butane and a million tons of ethane to be fed to petrochemical plants.
In his delivered remarks, Rouhani said that Iran had doubled production, as well as increased production from South Pars by 2.5 times. In doing so, he said that the country had surpassed output levels of its neighbor and partner on the field,Qatar.
“Doubling oil production and maintaining Iran’s share of the global market is a national honor,” said Rouhani at the opening ceremony, calling it a “memorable day” for the people of Bushehr.
“We hope that with the development of this project, [we increase] from producing 30,000-35,000 b/d to 50-60,000 b/d,” he added.
