ASKER, Norway – TGS is making preparations for the multi-client Crean 3D acquisition project offshore western Ireland.

This involves acquiring more than 5,400 sq km (2,085 sq mi) of data over the South Porcupine basin between the Porcupine High and the Irish Mainland Platform.

There are known multi-level targets such as Paleocene and Mesozoic channel/fan systems overlying tilted fault blocks.

Statoil/Husky’s drilling successes on theNewfoundland Labrador conjugate margin coupled with historical exploration of Atlantic Ireland has led to an uptake in acreage awards over this region.

Next month one ofShearwater GeoServices’ vessels will start acquiring the new 3D data, which should provide the higher spatial resolution needed to delineate multiple plays at multiple levels.

TGS will then process the data using its Clari-Fi broadband technology.
