TEL AVIV, Israel – Noble Energy will drill a seventh development and production well in the Leviathan reservoir in a batch with the Leviathan-5 well offshore Israel.
PartnerDelek Group said this decision will make it possible to streamline and reduce the cost of drilling of these two wells.
Israel’s Petroleum Commissioner at the Ministry of National Infrastructures, Energy and Water Resources has approvedLeviathan’s development plan, under which Leviathan-7 will be drilled as a development well and later connected to the project’s production system.
Delek said Noble Energy has received the approvals required from the commissioner and the Ministry of Environmental Protection, including for a drilling plan for the first stage as for a pre-drilling environmental impact assessment survey.
TheAtwood Advantageis currently drilling the Tamar-8 well and is expected to be connected and completed in the coming weeks, will drill Leviathan-7.
At the first stage, the upper part of the Leviathan-7 well will be drilled to a depth of around 2,900 m (9,514 ft) of water. At the second stage, the drillship will be moved to Leviathan-5, where it will drill this well to a final depth of about 5,200 m (17,060 ft) below sea level. Then, theAtwood Advantage will return to Leviathan-7 to drill the lower part to a final water depth of about 5,100 m (16,732 ft) below sea level. The Oligo-Miocene layers will be targeted.
The depth of the water at the drilling site is around 1,630 m (5,348 ft).
The Leviathan wells will be completed and connected to the production system on another date.
The drillings are expected to commence immediately after completion of the Tamar-8 well, and to take around seven months, excluding completion and connection to the production system.
