Kosmos Energy has begun the second phase of its multi-well exploration drilling program offshore Mauritania and Senegal.

DALLAS – Kosmos Energy has begun the second phase of its multi-well exploration drilling program offshore Mauritania and Senegal.
TheAtwood Achiever drillship is now on location off Senegal in the Cayar Offshore Profond block. It has started drilling the first exploration well in the program targeting the Yakaar prospect (formerly referred to as Teranga West). The Yakaar prospect is located about 40 km (25 mi) west of the Teranga discovery.
Last month, Kosmos received government approval for its transaction with BP, which saw the supermajor acquire a 49.99% interest inKosmos BP Senegal Ltd., the controlled affiliate company which holds a 65% participating interest in the Cayar Offshore Profond and the Saint Louis Offshore Profond blocks offshore Senegal.
Following the close of the transaction, the effective interests in the blocks became BP (32.49%), Kosmos Energy (32.51%), Timis Corp. (25%), and Société des Pétroles du Sénégal (Petrosen) (10%).
