Offshore staff
TAKORADI, Ghana – GE Oil & Gas has opened a new branch in Takoradi Port, Ghana.
The facility, which the company claims will be the primary service center for deepwater projects offshore Ghana, has a 1,600-sq m (17,222-sq ft) indoor test area with the capability to test three subsea trees simultaneously, and 4,000 sq m (43,055 sq ft) of indoor and outdoor storage.
This new infrastructure is already supporting the installation program for Eni’sOffshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) project. GE Oil & Gas is supplying subsea and turbomachinery equipment.
The company secured the$850-million order in 2015. It also covers provision of GE Power Conversion electric motors,
Lorenzo Simonelli, president and CEO of GE Oil & Gas, said: “We are committed to partnering with Ghana to help support building critical skills and developing infrastructure for the country’s future growth.”
The commitment includes a training program for the local workforce. So far GE has recruited more than 30 Ghanaian staff to work at the new facility, with two fully-trained field service engineers now working offshore to support the installation phase for the OCTP project.
GE partnered with Ghana National Petroleum Corp. and Ashesi University College to strengthen local oil and gas capability, via education and skills development, and a small to medium enterprise development program.
The aim is to develop the next and future generations of the local oil and gas workforce, providing them with local access to technical expertise.
