CAIRO, Egypt – BP has discovered more gas in the North Damietta Offshore concession in the East Nile Delta.
TheEl Qaher II jackup drilled the Qattameya Shallow-1 exploration well to a TD of 1,961 m (6,434 ft) in a water depth of around 108 m (354 ft).
Wireline logs, pressure data, and fluid samples confirmed 37 m (121 ft) of net gas pay in good-quality Pliocene sandstones. BP is reviewing options for a tieback to nearby infrastructure.
CEO Bob Dudley said: “Qattameya marks our third discovery in the block where we are already developing theAtoll field and appraising the Salamat discovery.”
Hesham Mekawi, BP North Africa regional president, added: “We are delighted to sustain our success in these shallow Pliocene targets. We believe development of Qattameya could help unlock the resources in other nearby discoveries with similar shallow low pressure characteristics.”
The well was drilled 35 km (21.7 mi) west of the Ha’py offshore facilities. BP has 100% equity in the discovery.
