ABERDEEN, UK – Return To Scene, a subsidiary of James Fisher and Sons, is performing a pilot project for BP on the Clair platform west of Shetland.
This involves use of the visualization technology, R2S Mosaic, which the company introduced last September.
The pilot on the Clair platform started in late October 2016 and included the R2S Mosaic capture of the facility’s production and cellar decks, plant design management system (PDMS) overlay and point cloud data. Work on the project was completed in January.
Return To Scene’s digital survey team conducted an additional trial for BP using intrinsically safe equipment.
BP will now assess the system’s functionality and value, with a view to adopting it at scale if successful.
Since 2009 the operator had applied previous generations of R2S to create virtual, interactive walk-throughs of its facilities, which are said to have yielded time and cost efficiencies through improvements in planning and reduced impact on bed-space.
The pilot should allow BP to determine how to apply the added functionality provided by R2S Mosaic and its role as a visual data hub.
Return To Scene has a global agreement with BP under which R2S has been rolled out across the operator’s facilities in the North Sea and US Gulf of Mexico.
