GODALMING, UK – Hurricane Energy expects increased resources from its fractured basement Lancaster field west of Shetland, based on new interpretation and technical analyses.
It follows drilling of last year’sLancaster 7, 7Z, and Lincoln wells.
Results indicate an oil-water contact of up to 1,678 m (5,505 ft) TVDSS and a hydrocarbon column height of more than 670 m (2,198 ft) TVDSS.
In addition, the Lincoln discovery appears to be a separate hydrocarbon accumulation to Lancaster, separated by the Brynhild fault zone, while the Warwick prospect is now thought to be part of a large basement feature that also takes in Lincoln. The latter finding will need to be confirmed through further drilling and testing.
Data for the revised interpretation came from integration of wireline sample oil analysis, wireline logs, gas chromatography data, sidewall cores, and integration of Lancaster pressure and fluid data.
Hurricane believes its previous estimate of more than 300 MMbbl recoverable for Lancaster is now conservative, as will be demonstrated in RPS’ forthcoming Competent Persons Resource report.
The company plans to take an investment decision around mid-year on anearly production system for Lancaster.
