LIMASSOL, Cyprus – Songa Offshore has mobilized an emergency response team to its new Cat D semisubmersible drilling rig Songa Encourage, currently in the Norwegian Sea.
At 12:30 p.m. yesterday water ingress was observed into a pump room. The rig, which has been working for Statoil on theHeidrun field, was not in drilling mode at the time as it was waiting on weather.
The water leakage has since been stopped and the rig stabilized. None of the 79 crew onboard was injured.
Songa Offshore says it is in continuous contact with Statoil and the relevant authorities, and is attempting to identify the cause of the incident.
