SAN ANTONIO, Texas– The 17th annual Subsea Tieback Forum & Exhibition is the world’s largest subsea event. The theme of this year’s event is “Meeting the Challenges.”
The 2017 event, presented byOffshore, takes place March 21-23, at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas. More than 100 exhibiting companies are expected to showcase the latest cost-effective products and services while answering questions about the industry’s challenges and trends.
This year, the Advisory Board has put together a program containing more than 20 presentations.
The conference will open with the plenary session on Wednesday, March 22, from 8:00-9:30 a.m. The 2017 Advisory Board Chairman Christopher Curran, Senior Consultant, CJC Enterprises, LLC, will deliver opening remarks. The keynote speaker is Greg Withers, engineering director for offshore projects in BP’s Upstream Global Projects Organization. Ryan Malone, projects general manager for Gulf of Mexico in BP’s Upstream Global Projects Organization, will deliver the scene setting presentation.
Following the opening plenary session, the morning continues with presentations regarding life of field – lessons learned.
The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement will discuss its concerns for riser life extensions in the Gulf of Mexico and its work with the industry through API 2RIM to establish methods for life extension evaluations. Anadarko Petroleum Corp. will provide a look back at lessons learned and challenges from the initial design phase through to installation, operations, and decommissioning of the Independence Hub. LLOG Exploration will deliver a general overview of how the company executes its subsea tiebacks in the Gulf of Mexico.
The afternoon sessions kick off with presentations on brownfield development – a path to profit in today’s market.
Hess Corp. will discuss the opportunities in a low oil price environment to deliver cost-efficient and accelerated subsea tieback projects (Conger and Penn State Deep assets). It will focus on “tools” to keep cost down and drive schedule, while incorporating new equipment to aging assets to maximize value. ExxonMobil Production Co. will cover lessons learned from a West African subsea brownfield project that involved additional umbilicals, flowlines, jumpers, and wells. It will include installation challenges of jumper connectors with the implementation of new technology interfacing with two EPCs, overcoming a damage incident during umbilical transpooling, and determining a fit-for-purpose outer sheath repair process implemented on the installation vessel. BP America will highlight the Thunder Horse South expansion project, which called for the expansion of DC45 to allow for additional production in the South field through the installation of two new 10-in. production flowlines from DC41 to DC45 that are tied-in to the existing DC41W manifold and a new four-slot production manifold at DC45.
The final session on Wednesday will cover enhanced recovery.
Chevron will discuss the technologies that are being developed within the long-distance tieback program for global application. Statoil will highlight the overall technical concept and the business case for Åsgard subsea compression as well as the lessons learned from the development and execution phase. Hess Corp. will describe how a recent change in hydrate mitigation philosophy at the Equus project met some of the operational, reliability, and business challenges that help keep this a viable project.
Thursday morning will kick off with a session on brownfield challenges.
BP will look back on the nine-year operating history of Thunder Horse. Special attention will be given to the subsea design and how it has impacted the project. In addition, BP will discuss real life examples of challenges faced while working on brownfield projects in deepwater and the solutions to these challenges. BHP Billiton will cover the design, planning, and execution of a three-well shallow water subsea tieback to existing platforms in Trinidad and Tobago.
The morning continues with presentations on greenfield lessons learned.
Chevron Australia will provide an overview and lessons learned of the subsea Gorgon and Jansz field developments. Eni will discuss the environmental, components qualifications, direct electric heating, cylindrical FPSO, and other challenges that it faces on the Goliat oil field in the Barents Sea. ExxonMobil will cover lessons learned from the Julia project in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico specifically related to the risers and flowlines design, as well as the overall offshore installation execution, including challenges and associated mitigation plans.
The final session will cover operational integrity.
ExxonMobil will describe the work performed to mitigate the vibrations from a riser base jumper and recover the soil’s support at a West African field. In addition, ExxonMobil will detail the successful removal of 500 metric tons of paraffin wax in a pipeline in an arctic environment and the reinstatement program. BP will cover subsea control module failures and umbilical bend stiffener failures impacting its offshore production facilities.
Throughout the event, attendees will have the opportunity to meet and greet colleagues on theexhibition floor and to learn about new products and services. The event will conclude with an awards ceremony, chairman’s closing remarks, and an American Express gift card drawing.
