MELBOURNE, Australia – The drillshipStena DrillMAX has spudded the deepwater SNE-5 appraisal well offshore Senegal for the Cairn Energy-led consortium.
The location is in the southern area of theSNE oil field.
According to Australian partner FAR, the current well and the follow-on SNE-6 will assess the upper SNE reservoir units, specifically reservoir connectivity and deliverability, via flow tests, including interference testing.
Last year the group successfully drilled the SNE-2, SNE-3, BEL-1, and SNE-4appraisal wells on the SNE field.
The two latest wells should assist placement of development wells to optimize oil recovery.
After SNE-5 has reached total depth a wireline logging and drillstem testing program will follow, the features of which will be finalized on examination of log data from the well.
FAR managing director Cath Norman said: “TheStena DrillMAX has been contracted for the two firm wells at highly favorable rates reflecting the current low-cost rig contracting environment.
“FAR and its Senegal joint venture partners are considering further optional exploration wells to follow the two firm wells to take advantage of the low cost of theDrillMax.”
