EDINBURGH, UK – Cairn Energy expects the drillship Stena DrillMAX to start a third phase of exploratory drilling later this month on the company’s deepwater acreage offshore Senegal.
TheSNE-5 and SNE-6 appraisal wells will be drilled south of the SNE structure with the aim of securing connectivity and deliverability data from the upper reservoirs by means of well tests, including interference testing.
Presently the partners are finalizing selection of further optional exploration and appraisal wells to follow these two firm wells, ensuring efficient evaluation of the full license area.
The resultant data should enable calibration of the reservoir model for upper reservoirs: this will help optimize recovery by ensuring potential development wells are designed appropriately in terms of numbers, placement, and orientation.
A phased development is one of various options for theSNE field.
In the Norwegian North Sea, Cairn is a partner in theWintershall-operated Skarfjell discovery. The partners expect to select a preferred development concept during the current quarter.
