ABERDEEN, UK – ENGIE has extended Petrofac’s integrated support services contract for the Cygnus gas field in the UK southern North Sea by a further four and a half years.
The extension to December 2021, valued at around $70 million, includes the provision of enhanced construction services and production supervision, in addition to the current pre-operations, operations, maintenance, engineering, and commissioning scope.
Petrofac began working on the pre-operational phase of Cygnus in 2011. The company has provided operations and maintenance services, emergency response, maintenance management systems and training services.
In the UK central North Sea, Petrofac claims to have completed the world’s largest scale squeeze operation.
ItsAnasuria cluster team injected more than 50,000 bbl of treatment chemicals into the Teal well to dissolve and remove scale that had formed in the well and production tubing.
The most common industry practice for scale squeeze operations is to use a well intervention vessel. However, the team developed an alternative approach that involved pumping the treatment directly from theAnasuria FPSO topsides through a 5.6-km (3.5-mi) pipeline.
This reduced the overall project lead time, Petrofac said, leading to substantial cost savings for client Anasuria Operating Co. (AOC), and successfully increasing production from Teal.
AOC awarded Petrofac aservice operator contract on the Anasuria cluster earlier this year.
